Monroe County Executive Adam Bello proclaimed the week of April 29 to be Small Business Week in Monroe County, in accordance with National Small Business Week as recognized annually by the U.S. Small Business Administration. Small Business Week provides an opportunity to highlight the transformative impact entrepreneurs and small business owners have on our local economy, culture and community.

“Small businesses are the engine of our local economy, and entrepreneurs seeking to achieve the American dream drive growth,” said County Executive Bello. “Thank you to all of our small business owners for their hard work and dedication. I encourage our residents to shop local and support our small businesses. Together, we can build a stronger, more resilient Monroe County.”

This year, the Small Business Administration’s Buffalo District (a district that includes Monroe County) recognized three Monroe County small business owners with awards.

  • Small Business Person of the Year: Jim Terhune, T & T Materials, Inc.

  • Small Business Young Entrepreneur of the Year: Orest Ravlyk, Lexington Diesel, Inc.

  • Veteran Owned Small Business Person of the Year: Darren Davis, R.D.C Shoe Company, LLC

In both 2022 and 2023, the SBA awarded Monroe County business owners as the New York State Small Business Person of the Year. Josh Schmieder of Josh Landscape Co., and Steven Olschewski of Clubhouse Fun Center both received that honor.
